There will be many opinions on this subject. I don’t claim to be an expert, but I can share my experience on the characteristics I’ve noticed great leaders have.
The ability to lead by example. The fullest expression of who they are inspires others to do the same. We are inspired to be better just by the example that they present.
No desire to lord over others. They will take charge and “lead” so that a desired outcome is reached, but they understand that the contribution of each individual makes the whole. They haven’t the need to wield power in order to boost their own ego.
Complete confidence in who they are. Never threatened by what they do not know, never arrogant about what they do.
The ability to see and develop the greatness in others.
Clarity of Vision. They see beyond what is. They know what the goal is and they are committed. All decisions made, and actions taken, line up with the goal.
Perseverance. Failure is not an option.
Sense of Purpose. They have an unwavering belief in themselves, knowing that they are the ones who have been called to a particular purpose. They have faith that whatever is needed to accomplish the task at hand, will be provided them.
Buried within many of us are purposes that are yet fulfilled and there are people out there waiting to benefit from the gifts that we carry inside. My sincerest wish is that everyone uncover who they really are and fulfill their purpose in life. Whether it’s being the best mom you can be and raising your children to be moral and contributing citizens, whether it’s getting involved at your church or supporting a cause in the community, whether it’s inspiring a culture of growth and social responsibility at your workplace. Whatever your talents are. Be intentional about your purpose. Be a great leader. The world is waiting…we need you.
